To me this is interesting, considering one of the most important aspects of getting a club profitable and keeping it there relates around member retention.
I'm interested to see if owners, managers, staff and even members of health clubs, feel if member motivation can be improved by the actual Fitness Equipment, and if the equipment can be used to improve member retention. (E.g. Fitness tracking, Programming, Personal Entertainment).
Generally members of clubs still lean towards using the tried and tested Cardiovascular products. Typically Treadmills, Cross Trainers (Ellipticals) and Bikes are still the popular products in most facilities.
Because of this, most manufacturers have spent time working on technological advancements to their products in the past 5 or 6 years. For example, the addition of personal entertainment, whether it be a TV or an iPod dock, and even the addition of programming to assist with tracking a members fitness progress.
Do heatlh club staff feel that product can be used to help to increase a members motivation, and/or have members had a positive experience using this type of technology?

I think the concept could work, if we were not reliant upon qualifications for training. I am also not sure of the profitability. Interesting concept though.

..absolutely agree with Dan's comments, swimschools are an untapped direct debit gold mine in many centres!
..yes we must firstly 'market and manage' them like a gym membership, however the key is to also SELL them like a gym membership using all the tools and techniques that we know work - simply structuring the swim school pricing and packages is not enough.

I have recently worked with several swim school clients to develop a simple sales process (that can be used by all swim school staff) to present pricing options with a strong focus on direct debit options and the concept of swim school for life, where parents join enrol their child as a baby and they remain with the swim school for many years.

Very powerful and Very profitable and Very easy!
